replied to your post: Is there a way to get the UFYH prompts without…
You could also tag all of the stories “ufyh stories” or something like that, and then they could get Tumblr Savior and blacklist that tag.replied to your post: Is there a way to get the UFYH prompts…
Of course it’s up to everyone to manage their experience…that doesn’t mean people can’t come up with a new/good idea. I just read that one and thought it was a good idea…not to mention I love simply the idea of “UFYH stories”. And not everyone has a “before and after” - a lot of the stories are “how i made this work for me” or whatever, and don’t really have anything to do with “this is how it looked before, this is how it looked after”. “UFYH stories” might even be more all-encompassing of a title.
At any rate, I didn’t mean to be annoying by agreeing with the original suggestion, I just thought it was a really cute/great idea of a new way to possibly consider things, that was all.

OMFG Barkeeper’s Friend
I’d tried everything, even a magic eraser. My toilet was CLEAN, but it was just irreversibly stained by the iron in the water.

And then I found barkeeper’s friend.
O.O

(sorry for the odd angle, I forgot I had taken the first one from a different perspective and I’m too lazy to go take another picture.)
It even got rid of some of the black gunk on the bottom there (that was from when we had to redo our water softener recently). Not completely, but it’s a lot better.
But seriously. YOU SEE HOW DARK THOSE RUST STAINS ARE. AND THEY ARE GONE. GONE! Why did I not know about this product until UFYH?

Unfuck Your Habitat: hey UFYH lady, check this out please
YO, can we rap for a few about the response to this “LOL, PC app” business?
1.) i totally get that you don’t have to be doing any of this, and you’ve put a lot of blood/sweat/tears/money into the iphone app to start with,…
Well to be honest, THIS response was quite a bit more demeaning, less civil, and a lot more rude than UFYH’s original answer to that ask.
I’m not old, I’m 25, and I still didn’t know that AIM and such were called “PC apps”. To me they are “software programs” - I guess I’m just uneducated as well (as is my husband, with a degree in computer science and has a job as a software engineer, whose brain also would not have immediately jumped from “oh, they want a PC app? I know what that is!” but would have at least had to think and go, “Oh, maybe they mean a software program?” He also adds that he considers “apps” as far as phones go and “applications” as far as AIM or Windows Live Messenger (not MSN messenger anymore, by the way, since you’re so “up” on everything) to be different things.
So you go on and tell us all how astonishing it is that we’re all so freakin’ stupid. I hope it makes you feel better about yourself, as that - and not politely explaining something - was clearly your goal. Good job.

Unfuck Your Habitat: Team UfYH, assemble!
Honestly, your approach of “yes, you CAN do 20 minutes a day, no excuses!” is what made me love this blog - and what changed *my* life. I really don’t want to see this to turn into a cuddly, lovey-dovey “every snowflake is special” blog, because there are plenty of those out there - where someone is there to tell you “oh, it’s okay! Of course the fact that you want to sit on the computer is more important, you don’t have to do anything more than that!” If that’s what you need, then go find one of them - unfuck your habitat is “terrifying motivation for lazy people” on principle. If the “terrifying motivation” approach doesn’t work for you, then the blog isn’t for you - it’s pretty simple. I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to expect you to change the tone and feel of your blog - that, may I just say, is what attracted so many people to START with - because they don’t enjoy it.
Bottom line is, if this is to turn into a blog about how “well, maybe you could just kind of get off the computer for 5 minutes and wash a plate, and then WELL DONE YOU DID EVERYTHING YOU NEEDED TO DO EVER YOU ARE THE BEST PERSON IN THE WORLD!” rather than the standard “yes, you can get off your butt for 5 minutes and do some dishes, now DO IT”…I’m not going to follow it anymore, because it’s not even close to the same thing, and the “babying everything” approach has NEVER worked for me, and this DOES.
I understand the posts you have sometimes about people dealing with depression, or an illness that prevents them from doing 20 minutes at a time, or whatever other problems people have - and I appreciate those, even as someone who isn’t dealing with it, because I think it shows how caring you are, and how much you truly WANT us to succeed. And that’s fine. But turning the entire blog in that direction isn’t helpful to anyone EXCEPT those dealing with those issues.
Anyway, that’s my personal little opinion, that has no bearing on anyone else, but you asked what WE wanted…and for me, I want it to stay just like it is, because THAT is what drew me to you, THAT is what helped me.
Prompted by recent criticisms, I would like to re-write some of the older posts from the archives that have been recently resurrected (including, but not limited to, the Fundamentals post) to be more inclusive and more representative of this blog as a whole and of Team UfYH as a community….

Today is a big day.
This is the first time I can EVER remember that I have made cookies and NOT made a huge mess of everything. Plus, the mess that WAS made (because, let’s face it, you can’t keep a 100% neat kitchen while baking sugar cookies!) is cleaned up!
WOOHOOO! And it’s all thanks to UFYH, really, that my kitchen was clean before I started and then I felt guilty leaving any kind of mess as I went along. So thanks for that :D
Plus now I have yummy sugar cookies baked, and the sis-in-law is coming over tomorrow night to help decorate them. Let’s hope I can keep up this “stay unfucked” attitude over the next week where I will be making four MORE kinds of cookies!

A Monday
Didn’t sleep well last night (again, shocker). But I’m not going to let that stop me today!
-Chicken soup is in the crock pot for dinner
-Laundry is started
-Dishwasher is running
Off to a pretty good start, for a Monday! On the agenda today:
-Unfuck bathroom (completely…scrubbing and cleaning everything, not just organizing)
-Unfuck bedroom (same as above…even *gulp* vacuuming!)
-Finish up Christmas gifts for the family (maybe? I don’t know if my arms will hold up to this one or not, as there’s a lot of “shaking to mix” involved and my shoulder’s already unhappy with me.) I’ll definitely get SOME done, but I don’t know if I’ll finish.
That looks like a tiny list, I know, but the bathroom and bedroom are a MESS!! It’s pretty awful.
Oh, and I hemmed my curtains yesterday so I can turn on my baseboard heater now. I don’t think it’s making much of a difference, but at least I got it done and can stop feeling guilty about it!!
Power to the unfucking! Now, what to put on TV as I work?
You’re right. Harry Potter. It’s a no brainer. ;)

To do today:
dishes
laundry
clear counters
make copy of wedding pics
make DVD of wedding video for family
get christmas cards addressed
fix lighted candy cane so it lights
finish cat toys to donate
finish a bath pouf
clean bathroom
unfuck pantry
walk izzy
Making a decent enough start. Got the pantry done and then did my kitchen cabinets while I was at it, because some of the stuff was kind of related. Whoops, just spotted a bag of Tostitos that didn’t make it out to the pantry yet…
Ok, they’re there now. Whew. I can do this!!
Unfucking my driver’s license tonight, too…or at least, getting my name changed, finally :P took forever with a social security card issue, but the BMV is open later than usual this evening so we get to go when Shawn gets off work - woohoo! I’ll be all official and stuff :D
Now, to the rest. Wish me luck!
02 12 / 2011
It’s morning.
But it’s also Friday, so it’s not as bad as it could be ;)
Mile-long list of things to do today so that I can do CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS tomorrow! Yippee! Except we also have to fix the garage door, because the cable on it snapped. Argh. But hopefully that won’t take TOO long.
Anyway. Here’s to a lovely, productive, and fun Friday!
